The Pelion Panthers looked to right the ship and take away momentum from the Saluda TIgers Friday night in the Panther Den. The Saluda Tigers came in with a 2-1 record after a big win over Mid-Carolina the Week before.
The story line for the game was turn overs and big plays, mostly benefitting the Saluda Tigers. Quarterback Pryce Whitten for Pelion was 11 of 22 passing for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. But the one stat that will hurt for the Panthers is 3 interceptions, leading to Saluda points either by pick six or setting the Saluda offense up in good field position.
PHS senior running back, Jeremiah Green, was stiffled by the athletic Saluda defense only gaining 79 yards on 21 carries.
The Pelion defense could not avoid the big plays from Saluda as several times the Panthers had the Tigers on a 3rd and long only to give up a big play to get a first down. The Panther defense was led by defensive lineman Will Jeffcoat who had 9 tackles, 2 assist, and 2 tackles for loss.
The Panthers will look to get win number 1 next week as they host the CA Johnson Hornets at the Panther Den. Kick-Off Set for 7:30pm. Dress in your Red, White, and Blue as the theme is America!
